What is to be globally engaged? Is it traveling from country to country, learning about new cultures or learning a language. Bud Rock, said to be globally engaged you need to be able to do all these things. Being able to travel back and forth is one of the best learning experience one can get and being a student of ASU you have tons of chances because you can either do the study abroad and that’s when you go to a country and go to school there and earn college credits. You can also do the student exchange program and that’s when you get to go and stay with a family in a particular country and engage in their normal lifestyle while attending school. A student who is very interested in that may be worried about the cost. But ASU came to the conclusion that for the study aboard program you can apply for financial aide or if it’s during a semester you can pay as much as you would be if you would be attending ASU.
If you’re not up for traveling then why don’t you submerge yourself into a different culture while you’re here at ASU. Take a language class. See how challenging it can be for foreign exchange students who barely know English go through. If you do not like languages join a club. They will teach you their different types of food, dance or lifestyle and at the same time meet and mingle with different types of cultures.
Being globally engage is one thing I think you cannot regret in having. You are learning about how the rest of the world works and how they interact with each other. When you see these you will learn something new that can be life changing.
As Bud Rock says, “In truth you won’t need to seek out global engagements. Global engagement will find you in every aspect of your life.”

Be creative!!!

When it comes to entrepreneurship everyone thinks they are talking about some business and making money. But they are wrong an entrepreneur as Peter F Drucker once said is the person who “always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity.” It does not matter what field of work they are in everyone and anyone can become an entrepreneur. It can be making money in a regular invention or not making any and by starting your own NGO firm that helps the people of the world out. “At ASU as a matter of fact there are nearly 60 courses that are offered that teach entrepreneurial principles. In those 60 courses we have students from over 50 different majors represented.”

When you look at these numbers they are great and ASU encourages anyone who has an idea to go ahead and start it. By helping to boost it up they have five certificates that they hand out to students that could add up to $300,000 or more. So why wouldn’t you want to start sketching out that idea you have been having in your mind. There are many professors who will help you get it off the ground and also peers who also feel the same about that topic in particular. One famous resource that the staff came up with was the Edson Student Entrepreneur Initiative. “Which provides student-led teams with the resources, such as office space, funding, training, consulting to start a new venture.”

So never think that you have to be a business person to be an entrepreneur. If you have an idea start planning it out and go with it to your professors and peers and see where you can change and make it better. Michael Gerber once said “The entrepreneur is our visionary, the creator in each of us. We're born with that quality and it defines our lives as we respond to what we see, hear, feel, and experience. It is developed, nurtured, and given space to flourish or is squelched, thwarted, without air or stimulation, and dies.”

United as One

Attending Arizona State is like being a part of the United Nations. We have lots of students from various parts of the nation and the world. Being engaged in such a diverse community like we have here at the universities, help us as students learn how to interact with a wide range of people from different backgrounds and ethnic groups. Not only do we have a wide range of students who are diverse the professors are too. We can learn lots from other cultures other than our own. It may be religions examples a Christian befriends a Muslim then they can have conversation about how the religions came to be and how different if they are any if different are they.
Another benefit for having diversity in our community it helps us change our mind on things that are not right. Example stereotypes, I think they come up when a person does not have any clue on what that other person or culture does. So they begin criticizing it in all ways possible. But when we do have diverse backgrounds intermingling with each other each person in that community can be able to see that why does that person act the way they are acting it’s not because their weird or anything it might be their culture.

Professor, Delia Saenz said “Students at ASU come from all 50 states and 141 nations throughout the world. Accordingly, diversity is used to describe our environment; not specific individuals or specific groups of individuals.” We all need to remember this numbers and enjoy and feel at one with each other because we are all learning from each other in one way or another.

Cheating never the easy way out!!!

Who want to be known as a cheater their whole lives after college? I surely don’t. Being academically honest is the way to go. Coming from high school to ASU is a big change and a challenge for everyone.

Getting to class and being given an assignment that you think you cannot be able to do and the only thing that pops into your mind is going onto the internet and buying one of someone. If you did that in high school and you think coming to ASU is not going to pass. It is considered cheater and going against the academic integrity code that you signed. What ASU considered to be going against the code is one, cheating. It might be physically, like writing answers on your hand.

Another is getting a copy of test from a friend or just copying from the person sitting by you during a test. Other example, are not citing your work right, copying and pasting and lots others. When you as a student is caught being academic dishonest they can get various number of consequences. The largest is that they will receive and XE on their transcripts that can never go away and get expelled. The teacher might give them a failing grade for the assignment or even the entire course.

So one thing to remember freshmen, when it comes to trying to go the easy route in college it does not pass. Time yourself and do your work right. If you do not understand an assignment feel free to ask your professors who do not mind answering questions. Another option is that you can go to the different tutoring centers that are available for all ASU students and they can help clarify the assignment for you.

Class, Study and Meet people

As a high school graduate coming to collage is one step to a better future you have chosen for yourself. But the mistake that every freshman tends to make is that in college you’re an adult no one is looking after you. You make the decisions that you think is right not your teachers or parents. The number one thing that Prof. Afsaneh Nahavandi said that you need to attend classes on a regular period. You might go to class the first day of school and your professor says that he or she will not take attendance so you think there is you escape route for not going to class and having that extra hour to sleep. But one thing you forget some professors might not test you on what is on the book they might test you on what they had said in their lecture. So in order for you to pass you need to go to classes periodically to benefit you no one else.

Being in high school one has a schedule that is every day. But in college you will come to realize that classes might be one twice or three times a week at a maximum and nothing more than two hours of teaching. When class is done your professor expects you to go and study for about three or four hours depending on how many credit hours you’re getting. So having those three hours not doing any homework just plain study is key to be successful in ASU or any other universities.
Having those two things at hand attending class and studying you need some time to mingle and have fun with your peers. College is supposed to be fun and exciting so being stuck behind a book for hours and not meeting new people is not being successful in college. They have various clubs for every type of activity and if you do not find one you like you can always start a new club with two other friends. Now having all those components in your mind will help you succeed at ASU or any other college you might be attending.

Go Green People!!!

Sustainability is a word that is not a word that you could not hear that often back in the older times. Today sustainability is everywhere and being a part of ASU the dean of the school is very passionate about this topic. Sustainability has lots of definitions it may be defined “as forming activities”. When one reads that what does that mean to them. To me it means that we need to learn about our world how it functions and what the best way to save our world.

Chuck Reedman stated that “Global population is increasing rapidly. In 1950 when I was a child, there were only two and a half billion people on the planet. Today there are over six billion, and by the time you’re my age, I expect there’ll be nine billion or more people on this globe.” As you think about that number, how can you as a person want to make this world a healthier and better place for your future generations?

I can say I am an avid person who wants the world to go green. And by green I mean using our resources to the best possible way. It might be by one getting a hybrid car. Theautochanel.com says that Hybrid vehicles reduce America's dependence on foreign oil and minimize emissions from greenhouse gases. When one decides on getting a hybrid car, they are saving money on gas and at the same time saving our future. Another possible way of saving our earth is minimizing water consumptions. America being such a well off country we are wasting about 9 million gallons of water daily.

Their lots of ways to save the earth so coming up with an idea or activity would be the best at your own definition for sustainability.
